Owner, Details Interior Fashions
Details Interior Fashions owner Karen Matthews began her career as a commissioned salesperson in Canada, in a store based on Ikea’s framework. She quickly moved to visual display, then became a buyer for a national department store. Karen later transitioned to wholesale representation of more than a dozen companies in the province of Ontario.
In the late 1980’s, Karen moved to New Hampshire from Toronto. She worked at a small women’s wear/clothing manufacturing company in Franconia, honing her sewing skills, and eventually becoming a production manager, where she and her team produced beautiful, locally-made garments.
Sadly, the shop closed, but this gave Karen a chance to support her husband, Scott, and his hand-crafted home accessories business. The two traveled to various trade shows in the Northeast, garnering sales in several national catalogue companies. As their company grew, Karen had the opportunity to participate in a business development program through the Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network (WREN) in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.
It was during the program that Karen realized she had her own entrepreneurial aspirations and in 2004, she returned to her sewing and design roots and began tailoring. A local business owner challenged her to transform old draperies into cornice boards and Details Window Fashions was born.
Now operating as Details Interior Fashions, Karen has stayed true to her core as a window treatment expert, but has expanded the business to offer furnishings, color consultations, lighting, area rugs, upholstery services, accessories, and more. Karen and her team are committed to working with residential and commercial clients of all sizes--Details has completed projects ranging from roller shades for a camp to 10’ x 25’ automated shades for a university.
Sometimes the right detail is simply a beautiful fabric, combined with the right design to enhance and warm a room. Other times, it’s just a matter of satisfying a functional issue in a room. Whatever the challenge, Karen and her team are dedicated to helping clients transform their homes and businesses with exceptional service and upscale products that accentuate the most beautiful details in your life.
