The Process
When you work with us for your custom window treatments, we design a solution that fits not only the window, but the room, the house or office, and the lifestyles of the people using the space. We also take into consideration:
furniture placement;
accessibility to the window treatment;
how the room is being used; and
whether an energy-efficient option makes sense for the space.
We start our custom window treatment consultations with an on-site measure (required) and conversation about your goals for the space. Our team will present design options, including lift systems, with samples and colors and possibilities for hardware. Once you’ve made your window treatment selection, we will provide you with an estimate.
Turnaround time is generally three weeks for hard treatments or six to eight weeks for soft treatments once the order has been placed.
When your order arrives, we’ll contact you to arrange for installation. Our installer has more than 20 years of experience and is a delight!
Window treatments fall into one of two categories.
Hard Treatments
Blinds or shading systems that are fabricated by a specific manufacturer. In our showroom, you’ll find a full line of window treatments from Hunter Douglas, Lutron, Graber, Comfortex and other leading companies. Cellular shades, wood blinds, shutters, roller and solar screen shades, motorized window coverings, custom draperies, valances--we offer energy efficient solutions for windows of all shapes and sizes.
We take into consideration: furniture placement and accessibility to the window treatment, how the room is being used, The nature and construction of the windows themselves can often determine whether energy efficiency should be considered.
Included in the process is an on-site measure, presentation of options with samples and colors, and for blinds, a discussion of the type of lift system.
Soft Treatments
Draperies, valances, cornices, or Roman shades that are fabricated using a material that is chosen from our extensive fabric library. This type of window covering is more personal and our goal is to help you achieve the vision you have for your home.
We have an extensive fabric library, including Kravet, J.F., Carole, Kasmir, Stout, and more. And, access to the Boston Design Center when more exclusive fabrics are required.
We work with you to refine the fabric selection in advance of our on-site meeting. It is imperative that the final selections be done in the home as ambient and interior lighting have a definite impact on color. Accurate measurements can be completed at the same time. Once the selection has been detailed we will provide you with an estimate. (Please note: Estimates for soft treatments are longer to process due to their inherent complexity.)
Designing Your Window Treatments
An on-site visit allows us to match the style of the window treatment to your decor and to the window details. The pattern of the fabric is also significant in determining the design and size of the top treatment or valance.
Depending on the style and fabric chosen, your window treatments will be fabricated in our on-site workroom or by one of several professional workrooms that we use. Generally we anticipate a six- to eight-week turnaround.
Details Interior Fashions has been fabricating and installing custom window treatments since 2004. A custom window treatment adds the finishing touch to a room. Upon installation, the room feels tied together and warmer, the decor enhanced, and feeling of ambience softened. Often, the simple addition of drapery panels or a valance can change the sound within a room as the fabric provides excellent sound absorption qualities.
If you’re looking to improve energy efficiencies, draperies are extremely effective. Our custom draperies are always fully lined. You can choose from a high-quality light filtering Cotton Sateen to a lining engineered to provide you with the ultimate in room darkening and insulation qualities. When the draperies are installed, where possible, the fabric panels are fabricated so they are wider than the drapery track. When hung, they are “returned to the wall.” This eliminates the gap, not only covering any hardware, but increasing the efficiency of the draperies. There are several pleat styles for you to choose from; the fabric or your design style is helpful in determining the right option for your project.
