Summer Cellular Shades

Are you seeking ways to maintain a cool and comfortable home environment this summer? Heat pours into a home through the windows, causing all the energy put into cooling it down to be lost. Glass makes up about 10% of the home's insulated exterior, but up to 50% of the home’s cooling energy is lost through it.

This means that half of what you paid to cool down your house is thrown out the window!

We recommend cellular shades, also known as honeycomb shades. These shades are highly effective for insulation, blocking heat and sunlight, and maintaining a cool, glare-free space. They achieve this by trapping air in their cellular structure. The cellular structure acts as an insulating barrier, helping to regulate the temperature in your home, preventing heat loss during cold winter months, and keeping cool air inside during summer months.

Cellular shades filter natural light, reducing glare and increasing privacy without completely blocking out the sun's rays, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in your home. For those persons with light sensitivity, the room darkening fabrics are a great solution as well!

Here are some benefits of using cellular shades:

  • Consistent ambient temperature

  • Lower your energy usage

  • Prevent sun damage to floors and furnishings

Cellular shades are available in a wide variety, with each type offering a different level of light control. This diversity enables you to choose the shade that best suits your needs and preferences, allowing you to create a space that is uniquely yours. There are different levels of cellular shades, including single-cell shades, double-cell shades, and triple-cell shades.

Single-cell shades have only one layer of cells. They are the most basic type of cellular shade and are usually the most affordable option. However, they do not provide as much insulation as the other types of cell construction.

Double-cell shades have slightly offset rows of interwoven cells, creating two layers of cells—one closest to the room and one closest to the window. This enables a greater R-value or insulation factor.

Triple-cell shades have three rows of cells, offering more insulation and energy efficiency. They are perfect for homes located in extreme-weather environments.

Cellular shades can also be automated! If you want to learn more about this, click this link.

One final option is from Hunter Douglas: the architella cell construction. This is a cell within a cell and offers the highest-rated R-value in the industry.

Homeowners can take advantage of a federal Tax Credit for their primary residences. This is a value of 30% of the purchase price, up to $1,200 annually. This offer is valid until December 31, 2032!
